How to Draw Honey Bees

a Step-by-Step Art Lesson

When art thrives
in schools,
students thrive in life.

OUR STORY

Hi! I’m Joan.

I've taught over 10,000 students since 1995 to explore, understand, and appreciate art. I'm an Elementary Art Educator with my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction—and I've spent nearly three decades in classrooms watching what happens when kids are given the right tools, encouragement, and creative freedom.

Ā

Like so many art teachers, I know what it's like to work with tight budgets, scramble for supplies, and spend Sunday nights prepping for Monday's lessons. But I also know the magic that happens when a struggling student finally sees themself as an artist—and that's why I do this work.

I started Fun Art Box because I wished someone had created these resources for me years ago. Every art teacher deserves a curriculum they can trust, tools that actually work in real classrooms, and a fundraising model that doesn't feel like a second job.Ā

Fun Art Box is aĀ mother-daughter collab —

built on decades of teaching experience and a shared belief that
art education should be accessible, joyful, and sustainable for everyone involved.

My daughter, Catherine, is aĀ graphic designer, website builder, and branding ninja who's always loved playing with colors, textures, placement, and design.Ā

She grew up watching me transform classrooms and inspire students through the power of good design and thoughtful tools.

classroom lesson ideas

Extend the Learning

Once your students complete the bee drawing, you can easily expand the activity into a deeper classroom experience. Try one of these ideas to build creativity, storytelling, and cross-subject learning:

Create a Pollinator Garden Scene

Have students draw flowers, plants, and additional insects to build a full pollination environment around their bee.Ā

Storytelling Activity

Ask students to write a short story about where their bee is flying and what it discovers along the way.Ā

Collaborative Classroom Mural

Combine everyone’s bee drawings into one large ā€œclass hiveā€ display on a bulletin board.
